Online shop

When a web shop disappoints, the cause is rarely the look. It is usually the back office: orders copied by hand into bookkeeping, stock numbers at odds with the storeroom, returns sorted out by email and customers limited to one way of paying. Every such snag eats staff time each week or quietly loses orders. Think of a coffee roaster in Salzburg with a café counter and an online store. Without a single shared inventory, the website happily takes an evening order for a roast that sold out over the counter before lunch. Once parcels go to Bavaria, German VAT enters the picture as well. Our approach therefore starts with the workflow and moves to the storefront afterwards.

Everything this covers

An online shop from Apply is one continuous chain from product page to booked invoice. These are the links we put in place.

Settle the details with an engineer

Product data and catalogue

Items with variants, unit prices, allergen details or technical data sheets, imported from your stock system or a spreadsheet. Categories and filters follow the way your customers search.

Payment without obstacles

eps bank transfer for customers of Austrian banks, cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, plus Klarna or payment on invoice if your audience expects it. All through one payment provider whose payouts break down cleanly.

Shipping and returns

Labels for Austrian Post, DPD or GLS straight from the shop or via Sendcloud, tracking links in the order confirmation and a returns form that prepares the parcel for sending back.

Tax and invoices

Correct VAT rates, invoices with every mandatory detail and, if you sell to consumers elsewhere in the EU, preparation for reporting through the One-Stop-Shop. Tax questions are settled with your accountant.

Accounting and till integration

Orders and payments flow automatically into BMD, RZL or Business Central. If you also run a shop with a cash register, we align stock with your till system. We do not supply the till itself.

Distance selling law

Mandatory information under the FAGG, a 14-day withdrawal notice, an unambiguous order button, an imprint under the ECG, a privacy notice and cookie consent under TKG 2021. Your legal adviser reviews the wording.

Accessibility under the BaFG

Operable by keyboard and screen reader, understandable error messages at checkout, sufficient contrast and an accessibility statement, based on WCAG 2.1 AA and EN 301 549.

Our working method

We start with the journey of a single order from click to ledger and only then expand catalogue and design.

01

Map the order process

Over screen sharing we walk through how an order is handled today: who sees it, who packs it, who invoices it, where mistakes creep in. That produces the list of integrations.

02

Platform and prototype

On Shopware or WooCommerce we set up a test shop with some real products and run an order through, including payment, shipping label and accounting entry.

03

Build and test

Design, full catalogue, legal texts and accessibility review. Test orders with every payment method and shipping option, including cancellations and returns.

04

Launch and first weeks

Go-live on a quiet weekday, daily order checks during the first week and a review after thirty days using the first real figures.

Since mid-2025 many online shops have had to meet the requirements of the Austrian Accessibility Act. The BaFG transposes the European Accessibility Act and applies to shops selling to consumers. Microenterprises with fewer than ten staff and annual turnover or balance sheet total of no more than two million euros are exempt for services; everyone else should have their checkout reviewed. The most frequent faults are unlabelled form fields, error messages shown only in red and payment windows that cannot be operated by keyboard. Whether your business qualifies for the exemption is a question for your legal adviser.

Frequently asked questions

WooCommerce is inexpensive to start with and fits well if a WordPress site already exists and the range stays manageable. Shopware is very common across the German-speaking region and the better choice for large catalogues, several customer groups and a share of trade sales. We recommend based on your numbers, not personal taste.

The RKSV register obligation is tied to cash sales, which under certain conditions include card payments. How your online sales should be treated is best clarified with your tax adviser. Our part is to make sure the shop and the till system see the same stock.

Depending on the system, through an existing connector, an export in an agreed format or a custom integration. The goal is that nobody retypes orders and incoming payments are matched automatically.

Technically it is simple, but shipping costs and taxes have to be right. We set up delivery zones, shipping rates and VAT so that Germany is a properly calculated market in its own right, not an afterthought.

You can do it yourselves or hand it to us. Updates, backups and checkout monitoring are available as part of website maintenance, with further changes at €110 per hour plus VAT.
