Remedy: monitoring and a backup. With no space left, the ERP cannot save anything and invoices stop going out. If the drive itself fails, a warranty claim or your staff take care of the hardware and Apply restores the operating system and the data.
Remedy: a backup that cannot be modified. Criminals look for the backup server early on, precisely to lock it too. Whether you are working again by the afternoon or haggling with extortionists depends on one copy guarded by its own logins and MFA.
Remedy: UPS, clean shutdown and a mobile data fallback. Roadworks cutting a cable or a thunderstorm over the valley can take an office off the grid for half a day. The crucial part is a tidy power-down and a restart sequence that brings things up in the correct order.
Remedy: snapshot first, maintenance slot agreed. A WooCommerce extension that breaks after an upgrade, or practice-management software for a law firm that no longer opens once Windows has patched itself. Reverting to the snapshot is a matter of minutes.
Picture a dental practice in Klagenfurt that has run a daily backup “for ever”. The day its server dies, the team learns that the job had been saving an abandoned directory from before a software move, while the live data sat elsewhere, and that every failure notice went to an inbox no one had opened in months. Green ticks on a dashboard never reveal that. A trial restore does, which is why Apply rehearses recovery on a fixed schedule and records the duration each time.
Because that promise concerns the hosting company's hardware and network, not what you store or how you configured it. A deleted directory, an encrypted VM or an application wrecked by an update all leave the provider's figures intact and your business at a standstill. Battery backup lasts for minutes, so its purpose is a safe shutdown that protects databases, not continued operation. Once mains power is restored, bring things back in layers: switches and storage, then servers, then applications. Since phones and internet may be down too, agree in advance how employees and customers will get information. The recovery playbook should spell out each of these points.
It depends on how quickly you need to be running again. Recovery by close of business is affordable; recovery within sixty minutes means a standby system and a larger outlay. After the impact analysis it typically emerges that just a couple of applications warrant premium protection.
